About Your Next Job
Fungi are among the most threatening pathogens to global food production. To decrease crop losses, we are developing new alternatives: products with ‘chemical-grade efficacy’ with the sustainability and environmental benefits of a natural product. As our Bioinformatics intern, you will be involved in the pipeline development.
About Your Next Colleagues
Bionomic is a Dutch agritech startup developing next-generation biological crop protection solutions. Based at the Leiden Bio Science Park, we tackle plant diseases (particularly soil-borne pathogens) by combining biotechnology with practical agricultural applications. Our fermentation-derived bioactive molecules offer a targeted alternative to chemical fungicides, with no reliance on living microbes for greater consistency, stability, and scalability. From discovery to application, we work hands-on to translate science into solutions that farmers can actually use.
About Your Tasks and Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
Develop and maintain bioinformatics pipelines for compound discovery and characterization.
Perform molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulations to evaluate protein-ligand interactions.
Integrate genomic, structural, and chemical data for target identification and compound optimization.
Collaborate closely with molecular biologists and fermentation specialists to translate computational insights into experiments.
Document workflows and results in reproducible, version-controlled formats using Git.
About Your Skills and Experience
What we are looking for:
You are currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Bioinformatics or related field.
You’re available to start from September 2026 and can commit at least 30 ECs.
Experience with Python, AI/ML models, scripting, and Git.
Enthusiastic and eager to learn about computational discovery in biological systems.
Strong communication skills and fluency in English, both spoken and written.
Where Molecules Meet Opportunities
What we offer:
Flexible hours and hybrid working options (office + remote).
Hands-on guidance from experienced researchers.
An open, collaborative, and entrepreneurial team culture.
Opportunity to make meaningful contributions to sustainable agriculture and biotech innovation.
Only apply if...
