To effectively manage its data, CrownBio has developed its own database and supporting infrastructure. CrownBio is currently modernizing the database and infrastructure. The goal of this update is to create a future-proof, flexible, and maintainable system.
During this internship, you will have the opportunity to contribute directly to this exciting project by restructuring data, integrating advanced search functionalities, and developing a user-friendly interface for data visualization.
About Your Next Colleagues
Crown Bioscience is a leading preclinical pharmacology CRO with a large collection of tumor models including cell lines, organoids, xenograft and homograft mouse tumor models, and provides drug testing services to pharmaceutical and biotech companies globally. Over the years Crown Bioscience has extensively profiled tumor models for their genomics, pharmacology and histopathology. The site in Leiden focusses on high throughput imaging to assess compound activity in organoids, thereby contributing to the discovery of novel cancer therapeutics in the preclinical phase.
About Your Tasks and Responsibilities
Initial steps toward a proof of concept have already been taken, but significant further development is needed to prepare the system for production use. The internship will focus on:
- Designing and implementing an improved database structure
- Developing scripts and test procedures
- Implementing code to interface between the database and associated tools
- Contributing to the development of a data visualization system
If time permits, legacy data may be migrated to the new system, and data analysis can be performed across historical and new datasets to identify patterns and extract additional insights.
About Your Skills and Experience
- Bachelor student informatics, bioinformatics or similar
- Experience with programming languages (java, python)
- Experience with databases (mysql)
